Rough Draft Presentation- PAUSED

The Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate approved Senate Bill 180. Senate Bill 180 was enrolled and engrossed on May 2nd, 2025. The bill has not been presented to Governor Ron DeSantis. SB 180 prohibits moratoriums or burdensome regulations on redevelopment by local governments within 100 miles of a hurricane storm track and by local governments affected by Hurricanes Debby, Helene, or Milton. If SB 180 is signed into law or is not vetoed, the City of Edgewater will not be able to make significant updates to the Comprehensive Plan or Land Development Code until 2027. City staff will also have to immediately call a special City Council meeting to withdraw the moratorium ordinances. Due to the impending passage of SB180, the Development Services Director in coordination with the City Manager have decided to reallocate staff time to best serve the interests of the taxpayers by prioritizing building permit reviews, development reviews, FDOT grant administration, impact fee update, and the water supply plan update. City staff sincerely appreciate the public’s participation in the planning process. City staff will continually track the legislative session and will provide further updates.
