Recreational & Cultural Services Board

Duties

The purpose of the Recreation and Cultural Services Board is to study recreational needs for all ages in the City and the utilization of land and facilities for this purpose; to study existing recreation activities and assess future needs; coordinate with organized groups within the City and outside on matters or programs that affect recreation; review and recommend land acquisition for public park purposes and matters concerning land utilization and facilities improvements.

The Board shall also make recommendations to City Council concerning maintenance and operation of City parks and recreational facilities; study and recommend to the City Council means for public and private funding for public parks and recreational facilities and coordinate private fund drives as necessary; provides recommendations regarding historical preservation within the City and recommendations regarding beautification of City parks, City facilities and various areas throughout the City.

The board consists of five members, with three-year terms. To be eligible for appointment, a prospective member shall be a resident of the City. Members may not serve on other City Boards or Committees.
