Building and Permitting

Effective December 31st, 2020, the 7th edition of the Florida Building Code will be enacted. Edgewater will enforce:

2017 edition of the National Electric Code

The Building Division provides efficient and responsive services, which enhance the quality of life and promotes a safe and healthy community though the administration and enforcement of the Florida Building Code. This is accomplished through a process of technical reviews, permits, inspections and certificates of use.

The Building Division staff is charged with ensuring that structures built, altered, renovated, etc., within the city limits of Edgewater meet all applicable building codes.

Staff performs building plan reviews, provides building code interpretations, issues building permits and performs inspections during all phases of construction including: single-family residences, commercial buildings, additions, alterations, repairs, swimming pools, screen enclosures, doors & windows, fences, storage sheds, re-roofs, water hook-ups, and other construction activity and issues Certificates of Occupancy once the project is complete. All inspectors are licensed in accordance with state law.

Contractor Licensing: We utilize Volusia County's Contractor Licensing Program (Volusia County Connect Live). Contractors who are registered and up to date with that system won't need to register separately with Edgewater. Contractors who are not registered with that system must submit a copy of their state license, workers comp coverage, and liability coverage with every permit application.

Forms and applications can be found here. All permit application types may be submitted via email at BuildingDept@Cityofedgewater.org. Plans that are submitted using this method must be signed/sealed digitally.
