Animal Control

The City of Edgewater’s Animal Control services help protect both people and pets by enforcing city ordinances and Florida state laws related to domesticated animals.

When to Call Animal Control

You can report animal-related concerns by calling the Volusia County Dispatch Center at (386) 424-2000 (Option 4). An Animal Control Officer or a Law Enforcement Officer will be dispatched, including after-hours if needed.

Common issues we respond to include:

  • Excessive barking
  • Animal abuse or neglect
  • Animal bites or attacks
  • Abandoned pets
  • Loose or stray domesticated animals

What About Wildlife?

Edgewater’s Animal Control does not handle wildlife issues and does not trap wild animals. However, help is available through other agencies:

  • For wildlife causing property damage, posing a safety risk, or appearing injured, contact Florida Fish and Wildlife at (386) 758-0525.
  • If you suspect a wild animal (like a raccoon or fox) may have rabies, call the Volusia County Health Department at (386) 274-0500.
  • For general wildlife concerns, you may also contact a licensed private trapper.
  • Frequently asked questions about Wildlife: FAQs: Nuisance Wildlife | FWC
  • Report a Nuisance Alligator: Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program | FWC

Your Safety Matters

Our goal is to promote the safety and well-being of both residents and animals in the community. If you’re unsure whether your issue is related to Animal Control or another agency, the Dispatch Center can help direct your call.
