Breeder Permits
Why Breeder Permits Matter
To help keep our furry or fuzzy friends safe and healthy, our community has a breeder permit system in place. Here’s how it works – and why it’s important:
Breeder Permit Tag – For Responsible Breeding
If you plan to breed animals, you must register and apply for a breeder permit through Animal Control. Once approved, you’ll receive a metal breeder permit tag with its own ID number (matching your permit) – and it’s a different color than regular license tags.
- Each breeder permit is valid for one year and applies to just one animal.
- Breeders must also get a business tax receipt from the city to operate legally.
Why this is important:
- Encourages responsible breeding and helps reduce pet overpopulation.
- Ensures that breeding animals are healthy and well-cared for.
- Helps track and regulate local breeding to prevent animal cruelty or neglect.
