Travel Tips
Since September 11, 2001, restrictions for traveling by plane, train, boat, etc. have been increased and vary from place to place. If planning to travel by commercial airlines, trains, etc., it is highly recommended you contact the carrier and get advice on what you need to know and do before embarking on that trip.

If traveling by vehicle, insure your vehicle is up to the trip. Have it serviced and equip it with items you may need if you do happen to beak down along the way; blankets, flashlight, tools kit, etc.

LEAVING YOUR HOME UNOCCUPIED
If you are going away for a day, week, month or longer, take the necessary precautions to secure your home for the time you are gone.

Ask your local law enforcement agency to set up a House Watch for you while gone.

STAYING IN HOTEL OR MOTEL
Safety Tips:
  • Test the doors dead bolt lock to be sure it is working.
  • Check to make sure the door’s "peep hole" is installed properly.
  • Check to see that the phone works; if you can call 911, does it ring at the front desk or at a law enforcement agency?
  • Test the room’s smoke detectors. If not working, call management.
  • Use all auxiliary locking devices when occupying or leaving your room.
  • Know who’s knocking on the door before opening it.
  • Locate fire exits, elevators and public phones.
  • Plan the best way to get out of the building in an emergency
  • Leave the television on when leaving the room to make it appear it is occupied.
  • Be observant. Report any suspicious movements in the hallways or the rooms to management.
