Suspicious Activity
Next to having good locks and adequate exterior lighting, a concerned neighbor can be your single best security system. A Neighborhood Watch organization composed of "nosy" neighbors can work to the mutual benefit of all in many ways. Many persons may observe a crime in progress without recognizing any unusual situations. Any one of the following situations at any given time might be considered suspicious and the law enforcement officers should be called to investigate. Keep in mind that many such occurrences could be completely innocent, but this is something the officers should determine. Call and report all suspicious activity you observe.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLES
  • Moving vehicles, especially if slow moving and without lights, following an aimless or repetitive course.
  • Vehicles being loaded with valuables, parked in neighbor’s driveway even if the vehicle looks legitimate, i.e. moving vans, repair trucks, commercial vehicles.
  • Abandon vehicle (old or new) with or without license tags.
  • Apparent business transactions conducted from a vehicle around a school, park or quiet residential neighborhood
SUSPICIOUS PERSONS
  • Door to door solicitors- especially if one goes to the back of the residence and one stays in front. Can be men or women, clean=-cut and well dressed.
  • Person waiting in front of a home; could be a lookout
  • Person forcing entry or making entry through windows.
  • Persons running, especially if carrying items of value.
  • Young persons alien to the neighborhood, offering to perform certain tasks such as mowing the lawn.
  • Frequent short visits to a particular home.
  • Young females visiting a home for short visits
PERSONAL PROPERTY
  • Property in homes, garages or storage areas, especially if several items of the same kind such as TV’s, bicycles, computers, etc.
  • Property being removed from a residence or building; meaningful if residents are at work, on vacation, or are known to be absent.
OTHER SUSPICIOUS SITUATIONS
  • Open doors, broken doors or windows, or other signs of forced entry
  • Unusual noises- gunshots, screams, sounds of fighting, abnormally barking dogs, anything suggestive of foul; play, danger or illegal activity

This list is not a complete list of suspicious activity that you as a concerned citizen might observe in your neighborhood or community. If you feel that something is not "normal" or right, it should be considered suspicious and you should take the time to call the Edgewater Police to have the incident investigated.
