When you dial 911 from any telephone, other than a cellular phone, your call will automatically be routed to the public safety / law enforcement agency that serves your area. You may be asked to identify yourself, however you can remain anonymous, especially if reporting a crime in progress or a complaint that you feel may result in reprisals against you. Stay on the line. Your call will be answered by trained personnel who will send the help you need.

You can call 911 FREE from any pay phone in Edgewater.

911 ON YOUR CELLUAR TELEPHONE
When calling 911 from a cellular phone, your call will be routed to the nearest receiving center to your location. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that when you call 911 from a cellular phone, tell the operator "I’M CALLING FROM A CELL PHONE AND I’M AT" then give them your location, i.e. "US 1 and Indian River Boulevard." and then tell them your problem. Giving your location first will assist responding emergency personnel to locate you and/or the problem in the event your phone’s battery goes dead or is taken from you.

WHEN TO USE 911
- If you need law enforcement, fire or medical assistance, dial 911 and tell the operator what the problem is and where the assistance is needed.
- If you are not sure whether you need a law enforcement, fire or medical response, let the trained operator determine what assistance is needed.
- If you want information or need to speak to someone from the police, sheriff’s office or fire department in your area, dial their administrative or non-emergency number listed in your telephone directory.
- DO NOT hesitate to use 911. There is no charge to call 911 or for law enforcement, fire or medical personnel to respond.

EXAMPLES OF WHEN TO CALL 911
- Fire or smoke in a building or home.
- Evidence that a crime is being or has been committed.
- Suspicious persons or noises around your home, especially at night.
- A person injured or ill and in need of immediate medical treatment, such as
   - Cardiac arrest- not breathing- no heartbeat
   - Chest pains- tightness or pressure sensation
   - Difficulty in breathing- shortness of breath
   - Unconsciousness or semi consciousness
   - Severe bleeding; severe injury

For the situation you have and you are not sure if you should call 911, or the non-emergency number, CALL 911. You are not in any trouble if it turns out not to be an emergency.
