MAYOR (4-YEAR TERM), DISTRICT 1 (4-YEAR TERM) and DISTRICT 3 (4-YEAR TERM)

The City of Edgewater will be holding elections for Mayor, District 1 and District 3 City Council seats this fall. Your local government is extremely important to you, because it is at the municipal level that you receive services such as police and fire protection, planning and zoning, building, improvements to your roads, water and sewer service, recreational and cultural activities. This is your opportunity to take part in the decisions that affect you on a day-to-day basis.

August 24, 2010 Primary Election – If there are three or more candidates for the Mayor, District 1 or District 3 council seats there will be a Primary Election on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. If a candidate in either race receives a majority of the votes cast for that office, such candidate shall be declared elected. If no candidate receives a majority of the votes, the two (2) candidates receiving the highest number of votes in the Primary Election shall be declared candidates and shall run in the Regular (General) Election on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.

Each council member must be a qualified elector of the city and shall have resided within the city for not less than one (1) year and shall be a resident of the district from which the person seeks to be elected on the date that person qualifies to run for office. Each council member elected from a district shall continuously reside in the district during the council member’s term of office, except that any council member who is removed from a district by redistricting may continue to serve during the remainder of the council member’s term of office.
