Each city has its own unique set of problems, but there are none who are exempt from common crimes. Edgewater Police Department strives to monitor and keep crime in check in our small hometown community. We cannot afford to turn a "blind eye" to gang related or drug related activities and sexual offenders/predators residing in our area. Sexual Offender/Predators – The State of Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) maintains a database containing public information on sexual offender and sexual predators registered as residents in our state. Edgewater Police Department does our part to monitor and track such offenders within our community. Police personnel document residential changes and activities of deemed sex offender/predators residing in our area to aid the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). This information is available to citizens to aid them in educating themselves about the presence of such offenders in local communities by accessing the website at: www.fdle.state.fl.us.

Gang Related Activity - Florida Statue 874.03 defines a criminal street gang as "a formal or informal ongoing organization, association, or group that has as one of its primary activities the commission of criminal or delinquent acts, and that consist of three (3) or more persons who have a common name or common identifying signs, colors or symbols and have two (2) or more members who, individually or collectively, engage in or have engaged in a pattern of criminal street gang activity".

Any citizen who has information they believe may be related to suspected gang activities is encouraged to contact the Edgewater Police Department by completing the following Citizen Awareness Form or by contacting our dispatch center at 386-424-2000. Citizens can remain anonymous and still provide the Police Department with information to help keep the streets of Edgewater safe.

Drug/Narcotics Related Activity - Drugs and Narcotic Activity are one of the primary crimes affecting communities today. Other crimes are spawned off the use and abuse of drugs, as well as untimely deaths of young and old alike. Drugs/Narcotics KNOW NO BOUNDARIES! Race, Sex, Age, Socio-Economic Status, Religion DO NOT play a factor in determining drug use/abuse; it can affect anyone at any age from any walk of life. Edgewater Police Department is a participant in the Volusia County Eastside Narcotics Task Force (ESNTF). Undercover members of the task force investigate tips, locate and track drug activity and known drug offenders and take steps to reduce the drug activity within our community. The task force works hand in hand with other east Volusia County agencies to assist in the war against drug use.

Citizens can greatly assist law enforcement in locating and enforcing such drug abuse. By providing information such as vehicle descriptions, license tags, descriptions/names of suspects and locations of possible narcotic activities, Edgewater Police Department can do their part in removing these elements from our community.

Any information known can be provided by completing the Citizen Awareness Form or by contacting our dispatch center at 386.424.2000. (Citizens may choose to remain anonymous)
