SWIMMING POOLS
Florida has the highest unintentional drowning death rate in the Nation for 1 to 4 years old age group and is third in the Nation for overall drowning deaths rates between 1999 and 2004. For this reason the Florida Department
Of Health Legislation passed the Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act (F.S. 515). The Florida building code requires that all inground pools, and above ground pools over 24 inches in height be issued a permit before installation or assembly. The pools then must be entirely screened in or shall, be completely enclosed with a fence or wall at least four feet high and should not be readily climbable by small children. For further inquiries please contact the Edgewater Building Department at (386) 424-2400 Ext. 1514. Additional information can also be found at the City’s web site at www.cityofedgewater.org. Failure to obtain the required permits is a City Violation and is subject to fines and is also considered a second-degree misdemeanor per Florida State Statue.
